Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries labeled as the most generous country in the world for six consecutive years until 2023 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). This information is indeed proud, but it is also a negative indication that Indonesian people are also easily persuaded or enticed by various stories of misfortune carried out by online donation actors. With the increasing popularity of digital donation platforms, donor protection has become a crucial issue to ensure that donated funds are used according to their intended purpose and managed transparently. This study aims to analyze donor protection in online donations in Indonesia, focusing on existing regulations and supervision. This study uses a qualitative approach with a virtual case study method by exploring sites related to regulations, online donation platforms, and donors, as well as analyzing relevant legal documents. The results of the study show that although there are several regulations aimed at protecting donors, implementation and supervision are still less than optimal, resulting in the risk of misappropriation of funds and uncertainty for donors. This study recommends strengthening regulations and improving oversight mechanisms to ensure that donor rights are effectively protected, as well as increasing public trust in online donations in Indonesia. Such as presenting a platform to track the truth and transparency of donation distribution that can be accessed by the entire community. With the existence of an independent tracer platform, the community can access the legality, credibility, and transparency of donation allocation based on evidence and experience (testimonials that are guaranteed to be honest) from donors that are collected and can be viewed on the platform.
